Book Blogger Spotlight: That Artsy Girl's Book Blog

Hi, I am Nazia and I am an engineering student from India. I love reading, writing, sketching and listening to loud rock music and I detest anything to do with engineering. I hope you guys aren't too hard on me for any grammatical errors I might make because English is not my native language. :)

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I started my blog a little over a month ago - May 15, 2013 to be exact. I've always loved reading books and after seeing how much fun the other book bloggers seemed to be having, I wanted in too. :) It's been amazing so far and I just hope I can keep doing this.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

It's actually not a very interesting story. A girl in my class once called me "that artsy girl" because I'm always sitting around sketching or reading a book. It sort of stuck with me and a few of my friends started calling me that too - The Artsy Girl. So, it seemed natural that my blog would be named That Artsy Girl's Book Blog.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

The best part of blogging is sharing my love for books with others. Where I come from, I don't meet many people who are as obsessed with books as me. So, it was really amazing to find that I'm not the only book-crazy person out there.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

When I started my blog, I was on vacation and it was quite easy for me to post something every other day. But now that I'm back in college, it is really difficult to balance lab reports and project presentations with blog posts. But blogging is way more interesting than any of my college work, so I don't mind spending hours on my blog everyday.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

Since my blog is newish, I've not participated in any weekly features yet. But I've seen some fun features on the blogosphere like Waiting on Wednesday, Stacking The Shelves etc. so, I'm sure you can see some regular feature posts on my blog pretty soon.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

Ah, let's see. My proudest blogging moment is actually the very first time an author contacted me and asked me to review her book. When I received that particular email, I jumped around my room for an entire five minutes. Embarrassing, I know. Here's the link to the review of the book I'm talking about, Phantasma by Penelope Reece.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

My favorite genres are Fantasy, YA Paranormal and YA Contemporary but I also occasionally read New Adult, Science Fiction, Mysteries and Thrillers. I don't review erotica on my blog, but I do read it once in a while when I'm not feeling my best. There is just something about a mindless, steamy read that makes you feel instantly better, isn't it?

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

My favorite series is Harry Potter especially because it is what started my love for magical books. If not for Harry Potter, I would probably still be reading smutty Mills & Boon and Harlequin type books. Harry Potter saved my life. No. Seriously.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

It is a tie between Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss and Archer from Hex Hall. I love both of them equally.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Again, it is a tie between Anna from Anna and the French Kiss and Sophie from Hex Hall. I guess you can say AATFK and HH are two of my fav books.

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

In no particular order: J. K. Rowling for allowing me to get lost in the wonderful world she had created. Rachel Hawkins for capturing perfectly the adorably snarky voice of Sophie Mercer. Susan Ee for restoring my faith in good YA fiction.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

Actually, it's already been optioned for a movie but I would love to see Angelfall as a movie. As for the cast, it would be superawesome if Henry Cavill could play Raffe and Ellen Page could play Penryn. I know that is kind of an odd pairing but I actually think they would look good together.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

My favorite book so far in 2013 has been Angelfall by Susan Ee. I went into the book with absolutely no expectations because I'm not a big fan of angel books (*meaningful glare at Hush, Hush*) but this one absolutely rocked my socks off. I mean, if you haven't read this, you should. Like, immediately. Because this book is intense, raw and absolutely wonderful. The best thing about this book is that Penryn is such a kick-ass heroine. She is not one of those I-need-a-guy-to-protect-me types. She is awesome.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

The book I'm just dying to get my greedy hands on is World After, the sequel to Angelfall by Susan Ee. After how Angelfall ended, I really can't imagine how Raffe and Penryn could get their happily-ever-after, but I have faith in Ms. Ee. I'm sure she'll write an equally, if not more, amazing sequel.

Paper books or ebooks?

I read mostly ebooks nowadays, but whenever I can, I buy a "real" book because nothing can beat feeling the pages in between your fingers. Don't you agree?

Where is your favorite place to read?

I'm kind of a couch potato, so yeah, couch. :)

Dark chocolate.

Coffee all the way.

Book Blogger Spotlight: The Indigo Quill

My name is Lis Ann (pronounced like Lisa without the "a") and originally I am from Battle Creek, Mi. But right now I live in Springfield, MO with my husband and our two fur babies.

My partner in crime, Carolynn, still resides in our hometown with her husband.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

Well, I've been blogging ever since like, 7th grade (OpenDiary, anyone?). I recently decided to start a Book Review blog because, well, I love books and love blogging. Apparently I should've started sooner because it's just exploded since!

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Funny story. We have recently been decorating our house and I got a ton of cheap furniture on Craigslist to up cycle and paint. I painted our entertainment center and coffee table this rich, bluish color and looked at the name of the paint. It was called "Indigo Midnight" so when I was thinking of a name, this is how the thought process went: "Indigo. That's a cool word. Now I need something writerly. What's writerly? …a quill! Quills are writerly! We shall be called The Indigo Quill!" And thus I set forth!

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Gosh, that's a tough one. I mean, other than the fact that I may never run out of books to read, I love all the great people we get to connect with and help out. As aspiring writers, it helps us to feel not so alone, and hopefully our fellow authors as well.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

Turning down people's work. It breaks our hearts. I mean we want everyone to succeed and when we have to turn down an author because they didn't ensure their work was polished enough to be public-worthy, it's an email we always dread writing.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

YES! Currently we do a segment every Saturday called "Cinematic Saturdays" where we compare a book to its (often tragic) movie adaptation. It's a lot of fun. Actually, we just did a video review on the Twilight series. Which, if you are a Twi-hard…you may hate us for it. lol I'm thinking of a couple more segments to add, but we are currently working on an entirely new project we can utilize to provide emerging authors help in the publishing process.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

Well, our Twilight review was pretty entertaining. I mean, it's basically 30 minutes of a bash fest (again, sorry Twihards!!) but we had so much fun with it. Plus it was our first video so we have all those wonderfully awkward quirks in there. Like me laughing awkwardly throughout the whole video...

Other than that, I really enjoyed interviewing R.T. Kaelin for his book Progeny. He was a lot of fun to work with and I was able to have some unique moments with his interview.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

That's tough. I try to be a well-rounded reader, so I like a lot of them. I guess if I had to choose ONE, it would be Christian Fiction. I'm a total sucker for Karen Kingsbury. I also love classics like Jane Austen. But I also love books I can learn from, like we've done some cookbooks and even a book on interpreting Dreams. All the fun and unique ones that I think sets us apart as a blog. I really didn't answer your question…sorry…lol

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

Harry Potter. Always. J.K. Rowling is a literary genius who did endless amounts of planning and development. I mean, she created her own world. The fact that she wrote some books that were IN her books is seriously awesome (Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Quidditch Through The Ages).

However, I REALLY wish she would write "Hogwarts, a History." Sigh. Maybe someday.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

This is tough. Umm. Michael Hosea from "Redeeming Love." Holy crap am I in love with that man!

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Hermione Granger. She is my literary parallel. Anal and obsessive compulsive just like me. In high school, my friends and I associated with the HP Trio. We even made videos…parodies…we're trying to get a hold of them so we can post them on the blog. lol!

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

Wow this is really hard! Obviously J.K. Rowling, previously stated. Karen Kingsbury because she writes things that people can really relate to. Victor Hugo. Wow. Talented and innovative. If you haven't seen/read Les Miserables, you need to. Right. Now.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

Redeeming Love. It would be so tragically beautiful.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

Okay, it's been a little bit of a guilty pleasure, but I really enjoyed the "Blood and Snow" series by RaShelle Workman. I couldn't stop reading. It was a serious issue. That one and "Sparkly Green Earrings" by Melanie Shankle, that was good for a laugh!

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Well, I've been trying to get into "The Selection" series, but I was #16 on the waiting list at the library!! Still waiting so I can read "The Elite"!

Paper books or ebooks?

PAPER BOOKS. Anyone else like to smell the pages? Or is that just me?

Where is your favorite place to read?

Anywhere in nature.

Milk chocolate, white chocolate or dark chocolate?

White chocolate! I've had this thing for cookies n cream candy lately.

Coffee. With lots of cream and sweetener. Really, it's my excuse to have dessert first thing in the morning.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I became a book blogger in January 2012. I had started my blog in 2005 as a place to blow off steam, but I didn't do much with it. Last year, I gutted it, saving only one or two of the original posts. I had been on a readin hiatus for many years, reading only sporadically after being a huge reader for a long time and being in a book club. Once I had a child, it was hard to keep up with anything other than Goodnight Moon or Moo, Baa, La La La. I had started to read regularly again and wanted to let people know about books I liked.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

I don't remember exactly. I had thought of having a grammar police blog, since most of my pet peeves are about bad grammar, but then decided to do a book blog. I checked to see what was available as a web address, and once I'd decided on Ink and Page, I found that there was a stationery company that had reserved it. That is not their name, but they bought InkandPage.com because it was close to their name. That's why I am InkandPage.me.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Shelling out my opinions, of course. That and getting comments! That means people are actually reading my posts!

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

Shelling out my opinions. I am very careful (at least I think I am) about not attacking an author if I don't like what they've written. After all, it isn't my place to decide whether they should be writing; I am just giving MY opinion of the finished product. I am keenly aware that not everyone (or anyone) will agree with me, and that's fine. When I do my full-blown reviews, I always include links to two other blogs or newspaper reviews so people can get other perspectives.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

Yes. The ones I regularly do are The Sunday Post that is sponsored by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer (a rehash of my past week with links to my posts; what I hope to accomplish the next week and any news, new books I received, etc.). The second one is Top Ten Tuesday that is put on by The Broke and the Bookish. They have a different topic each week (Top Ten Series, Top Ten Villains, etc.). I love that they post the topics ahead of time on their blog! The last one is called Feature and Follow Friday. This one is sponsored by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. They feature two blogs and everyone can answer a weekly question. This is designed for blogs to get more followers.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

There have been so many, really, from meeting authors online and in person, authors retweeting me and thanking me for reviews. That is always so super cool. Getting free books is pretty awesome, too. And a couple of my posts are on the front page of Google, so whenever anyone searches for the publishing date of Emerald Green by Kirsten Gier, there I am. I get so many hits off of those posts that I am going to suffer mightily when that book finally comes out. I am pretty proud of my interview with Trish Dollar, too.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

I concentrate on Young/New Adult, but I do have some reviews of Middle Grades and Adult books as well. I love reading all different kinds of books, though.

I don't remember there being such a huge Young Adult genre when I was a young adult, and I really love those books. I am not a prude or have a problem with profanity, but it always seemed like when you don't have a lot of that going on, there's so much more time to tell a great story. Not that there aren't plenty of Adult books that fall under that description, but I think I also like the "growing up" aspect and the experiencing life and having to make adult decisions, too. I really hope that the New Adult genre starts to focus more on than just sex and talks about more issues/problems specific to them. First jobs, going to grad school, living on your own for the first time, having to make more mature decisions - it's all there, waiting to be told.

I do have a soft spot for Chick Lit and my fav Adult books are The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones (oh Reyes...)

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

Harry Potter has to be my favorite. Not only is the series meticulously and fabulously written, to be able to come up with all those different characters, monsters, etc., is wonderful. They are timeless in the way they are written, so I doubt they will ever sound dated. I also absolutely love Cassandra Clare, Trish Dollar. Ally Carter, Jane Austen, too. There are too many individual books for me to list!

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

I have a love of snarky, brash, funny guys, so, naturally, I love Jace Wayland and Will Herondale from Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series and The Inferal Devices series. These guys are usually hiding some big hurt or secret, too.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

I am smart-alecky but not particularly athletic. I love the females who not only are smart, but push themselves like crazy. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series was all brains at first, because she thought that was all she needed to have to succeed. She certainly grew and changed and became one kick-ass heroine.


Tris from Divergent is great, too, especially since I know I could never do the things she did to survive.

 It's amazing the number of YA books that have been optioned for movies and TV series. I know that Stephenie Meyer has started a production company and is already working on something. That is so super cool! I think Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall would make a great movie. Also Lauren Myracle's Shine. And who wouldn't want to see St. Clair in the flesh in Anna and the French Kiss? As for series, what about The Wolves of Mercy Falls series or the Hereafter series? Also, my indie pal Angel Lawson wrote a romance/suspense story called Serial Summer and a fun story called FanGirl that would be perfect on the big screen.

As far as stars? Anything with Alex Pettyfer would be fine with me. Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, Greg Sulkin, Deborah Ann Woll, Ryan Kwanten, Kit Haringon, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Beau Mirchoff, Dylan O'Brien...I think I only know people from existing movies and the Disney Channel!

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

Published in 2013? Hmmm...so far, I would have to say Splintered by A.G. Howard. Or Geek Girl by Holly Smale. Or Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. Or Dare You To by Katie McGarry. Or Being Henry David by Cal Armistead.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Dollar
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier

Paper books or ebooks?

I prefer real books, but I read a lot of eBooks, too. I like seeing the books on my shelves and holding them in my hands. For some reason, being able to see how much I have left to read is important to me.

Where is your favorite place to read?

On the couch, in my bed, in the car on a road trip.

Milk chocolate, white chocolate or dark chocolate?

Milk chocolate, followed closely by white chocolate. I am not a fan of dark chocolate.

Coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate?

Depends on the time of day. Coffee in the morning (or a Non-fat, two Splenda latte if it's available) and hot tea the rest of the day. Best tea is Fortnum and Mason's Royal Blend. You can get it here in the states at Williams Sonoma.

Book Blogger Spotlight: The Book Blog

Well, there are three of us. Jennifer, Lesley and Sandy

Jen, is from Tennessee. Sandy is originally from Brooklyn, NY but happily resides in New Jersey.  Lesley is from West Virginia.

When and why did you become book bloggers?

April 2013 - We were brought together because of our love for reading and the joy we get from spreading the word about them.

SB: My hubby and kids didn’t understand my book obsession.  Jen, Lesley and our followers totally get it cause they feel the same way.

J: In March, I had the opportunity to meet Katie Ashley, M. Leighton, Jenn Foor, JB McGee and AC Marchman. I had a blast and got to chat with Michelle Eck from Literati Literature Lovers. After talking for about an hour she asked me why I didn’t have a blog. That when the wheels started turning and here we are!

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

We kind of just inherited the name.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

SB:  Do I have to pick one?!  Really?!  How about my top 3?

1) Finding things in common with our followers whether they are across the street or in The Philippines. There are no limitations when it comes to the love of a great read! 

2) Discovering new authors is fun. 

3) Thirdly, building relationships with those authors that you admired and whose books you purchased is pretty cool too.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

SB: Time management. It’s difficult to say no to a review request – especially from new authors.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

SB: We actually do a Daily Hottie.  The reactions from our likers are unpredictable and often hilarious.  Weekly we do the “what are you reading this weekend” just to keep abreast of what our likers want to see reflected on the page.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

L: I would have to say, the review Jen and I did for Being Me. Lisa Renee Jones actually complimented us on the review.

SB: We did a 1000 likes giveaway.  The overwhelmingly generous response from authors to our donation requests was such a surprise.  I was totally tickled pink!

J: My favorite moments are when we are discussing a book that we just finished and the author of said book joins us! Fangirl right here!

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

L:  I’m not afraid to reach out of my comfort genres but I do find that I stick with them most of the time. Those are Romance (any and all Subgenres), YA, Paranormal/Fantasy, and Historical Fiction.

SB: Angels, vamps, weres, fae, dominant millionaires, greek gods, rock stars, motorcycle riding tatted up bad boys  – yea I’m all over it.  Bring on the smexy.

J: Same here. Romance all the way. Paranormal, Contemporary, UF, NA/College. I shy away from Historical Romances though.

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

L: Wow, that’s a really hard question for me. I feel that if I pick one it’s unfair to the others. Total Book Whore. LOL But if I have to I’m going to go with my all-time favorite. “The Heretic Queen” by Michelle Moran. It a story set in Egypt about a young Princess named Nefertiti. She’s the underdog so to speak, that gets the short end and comes back to capture it all. But most of all it’s a love story with some truth to it. There’s a tomb still sitting to this day from a pharaoh to his queen. True love.

SB: I would say the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz.  I adore the paranormal aspect of his writing.  The way the light always overcomes the dark.  He’s the only time I stray from the “romance” or “new adult” genre.

J: That is a hard question! I adore all of the Harry Potter books. Each one was better than the last and I felt as though I had already seen the movie while I read them.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

L: It’s going to have to be Christian Grey. I can’t pick anyone else. He was one eff’d up man and I wanted to fix him and love him until he was whole again. He grew and evolved to become a better person for himself and Ana. *Sigh*

SB: Absolutely without a doubt it is GIDEON CROSS.  Sylvia Day is my favorite in the “New Adult” genre.  No matter what she writes I will read it cause it is always awesome.  Gideon is my top BBF (book boy friend).  When he says I would do anything for you to Eva – he means it.  He is hot, he is sexy, he is alpha.  What girl wouldn’t love a guy that says “I couldn’t stop thinking about you.  I had to come see you.  I had to make you come.”  Oh Yea….that’s hot!

J: I have to agree with Lesley. Christian Grey was like a spark plug for me. Once I read Fifty Shades, I had to find more and I haven’t been able to stop. For a few days, I was the girl that tripped into an office and fell in love with the CEO of that company.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

L: Gabriella from The Dark Light series by S.L. Jennings. Gabs is the schiznit. She was dealt some eff’d up cards. But she’s a kick ass and take names kind of girl, yes slightly naive in the beginning but in the end she know what she has to do.  She grows and matures through life’s challenges, even making decisions that hurt her in the process. Most of all I can relate to her …except I can’t kick ass with magic. HAHA !

SB: Sophie Price from Vain by Fisher Amelie.  Sophie is beautiful, rich, entitled and is Queen B (a la Gossip Girl) of her social pack. She is no innocent.  Oh she also happens to have huge Daddy issues.  A drug bust gets her sent to the far ends of South Africa to “work” at an orphan rescue for children that are victims of the war lords.  Only the bare necessities are a way of life here.  Fisher Amelies writing is brilliant! I had a book hangover for a week. At the end, there was a full circle moment for sure and I absolutely loved Sophie.

J: This was a tough one for me. I am going with Laurelyn from Beauty From Pain. When she was given the chance to stay with Jack for 3 months, she took the chance. I loved that her inner dialogue about whether or not she should do it or not only lasted a few sentences. She didn’t go back and forth and second guess herself. She was strong and stuck to her guns when she knew she had to do something. I loved it!

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

L: Michelle Moran, for her ability to bring stories of the past to future in great detail. It brings life to the past. Rebecca Zanetti, for her amazing world of vamps, shifters, and demons. It’s a world unto itself and with each book you bond with the realm even more. Her books keep me intrigued. S.C. Stephens, She gave us Kellan Kyle. LOL There are too many authors who deserve their name here.

SB: It will be difficult to pick three, I apologize in advance for those authors that I love and won’t be able to name in this instance.  Sylvia Day because she gave me Gideon Cross.  The Crossfire Series is in my opinion the best out there, in this genre.  Dean Koontz because all his book carry that paranormal element.  Suspense, edge of your seat, hand at your throat exciting.  Third I would have to say Tara Sive  because she made me LOL the whole time I read her Chocolate Lovers series.  Funny, sexy and romantic. Lord know the woman has expanded by vocabulary with words that I cannot repeat here.  Honorable mention to Colleen Hoover for writing Hopeless.  Hopeless, made me put down my Kindle and fortify myself with tequila.  It also contains the sexiest, hottest, and most romantic non-kiss EVER.

J: Jeez, only 3? Kristen Ashley is my first. I love they style in which she writes. She is the queen of the alpha male and they are so strong in character. I love her females just as much. When she allows them to get words out, without being interrupted, it’s hilarious to me! Sylvia Day because she knows how to write SEXY! Her men are strong and fabulous and I can’t get enough of them.  Lindsay Sands, she writes great paranormal and historical romances. I’ve only ever enjoyed her historical romances because they have been called hysterical romances.  These ladies do it all for me. Humor, SEXY and Paranormal. Now that I say that, It’s time I get my hands on another Lindsay Sands book!

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

L: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. We need some more laughter on the big screen. Too many horror films putting ideas out there for the psychos. Like they need help people! Better yet, maybe we should keep an eye on those screen writers.

SB: Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec.  Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake could play the starring roles.  I wanna hear someone on the big screen say twatwaffle.  LOL.

J: Great answer ladies! I want to see The Crossfire Novels on the silver screen. Sylvia had made her characters so real to me. Their love, obsession and inner demons spoke to me. And during most of the 2nd book, my heard was in my throat. She had my stomach in knots and I had no idea where the story was going. I loved every second of it.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

L: I’m going to have to go with the book that moved me to the worst book hangover ever- “The Last Hour” by Charles Sheehan-Miles. It was so well written and emotionally evoking. I was completely shattered. I think it says a lot about an author to carry you through such an emotional story, knowing the ending may not be the happy ending we all like to see. I will never forget this story.

SB: I’m going to say Promise Me by Barbie Bohrman.  It has the high school loner bad boy, the jock and the popular girl get married but aren’t so happy.  The betrayal of your boyfriend and your best friend.  The tell off scene is epic.  Themes that have been done a million times but at Barbie’s hand they are fresh and I really enjoyed this book.  The hot sex scenes didn’t hurt either.  The HEA was the icing on the cake for me.

J: I honestly cannot come up with just one! I loved Darkness Before Dawn by Claire Contreras. Heaven and Hell by Kristen Ashley, although it’s been out a while. But the book that ripped me a new one and wrecked me at the same time was The Dark Prince by SL Jennings.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

L: That’s a never ending list, but here are a few: Fear of Falling, The Edge of Always, Light Shadows, Nikolai: A Dark Light Novella, Gabriel’s Redemption, Torn, Pulse, Shooting Scars, Shadowed, Very Bad Things, Arsen,  ………..like I said soooo many.

Book Blogger Spotlight: K-Books

Hey I’m Kayleigh, I live in North East of England and I am a recently qualified Teacher teaching Psychology in Colleges and Literacy in Adult Community Centres.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I became a blogger in February 2011. I decided to blog because I just love reading and sharing the book love. A friend of mine told me about the blogs she follows and after reading some them I decided to start my own. I already wrote short reviews on Goodreads and Amazon so it wasn’t like I had to start from scratch with the reviewing side of it.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

I am possibly the most uncreative person ever and the name of my blog is so uncreative and unoriginal. I sat for hours trying to think up a name for my blog and I really couldn’t think of anything. I ended up naming it K-Books. K after the initial of my first name and Books because it is a blog dedicated to books.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Without a doubt the community. It’s an amazing thing. Getting to know other bloggers, authors, publicists etc on a personal level is just incredible. I love them all so much and I consider the majority of the bloggers and authors I have met close friends and they are like a bookish family to me even though they live halfway across the world from me.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

The review books. I know it’s stupid right? It’s such a privilege for authors and publishers to send me books to review and I love reviewing them for them but sometimes I feel like I’m losing interest in reading purely because I feel like I have to read them rather than want to. I’m gradually learning to find a balance between blog tours and review books and reading the books I have bought as well.

Another thing I find hard is juggling my personal life and blogging. My lifestyle is pretty hectic with University and now my upcoming teaching job and blogging can be really time consuming. I find it can sometimes be stressful trying to fit reading, reviewing, blog tours and my personal job in. Again I am trying hard to find a good balance. It’s a working progress.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

I used to all the time. With university I stopped doing them for a while but am trying to get back into it. I do a book haul weekly and also Waiting on Wednesday. I love them both equally. I especially love stalking my other favourite blogs to see what books they have gained each week and what they are looking forward to as well. Waiting on Wednesday takes me forever though because there are so many books I am looking forward to I can never choose which one to feature.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

Erm… that’s a tough question. I think my favourite moments have to be working with Spencer Hill Press. They are incredible and getting to know them all on a personal level is incredible. I adore all of their pubicists and authors and I just adore everything about them. They are incredible to work with.

Another moment was when I got to interview my favourite author in the world, Jennifer L Armentrout. And of course getting to know all the other bloggers.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

My favourite genres are Dystopian, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy Contemporary and mythology. Really I have a really open mind and will read anything apart from erotica and historical. I just don’t enjoy reading those. I love YA, NA and Adult books.

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

It has got to be the Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout. It just has everything. Perfect writing style, a kick-ass female character, a swoon-worthy and drool-worthy guy and the Greek Gods. It’s full of super hot chemistry between characters and non-stop action. It’s such an incredible series. I could just read it over and over and never get bored.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

It has to be Aiden from JLA’s Covenant series. He is just the perfect guy. I find myself just sat grinning like an idiot whenever I am reading a scene with him in. He is amazing.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Oohh that’s a toughy. I think it would have to be Katy from Lux by Jennifer L Armentrout. She is just awesome and snarky. She gives as good as she gets and she’s a book blogger. What could be better?

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

Oohh there are so many authors I adore.

Jennifer L Armentrout is without a doubt my number 1 authors.

Wendy Higgins as I just adore her books and she is the sweetest author ever!

And…. Cecelia Ahern. Because her books were the first books I ever read and loved and they made me love reading. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t be a book lover and a blogger.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

Definitely Covenant by Jennifer L Armentrout (can you see a theme running?) I think it would be a fantastic movie! Full of hot guys, kick-ass girls, non-stop action and a twist of mythical magic.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

Oohh that’s a toughie. I think it would have to be Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas. I just thought it was epic! I could not put it down and it had so many twists and turns that I never saw coming. It left me literally with my jaw on the floor dying for the next book.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

I cannot wait for Origin (Lux #4) and Sentinel (Covenant #5) by Jennifer L Armentrout. I also cannot wait for Perfection by JL Spelbring, The Dollhouse Asylum by Mary Gray, Reclaimed by Sarah Guillory, Fireblood by Trisha Wolfe and Extracted by Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley.  As well as all of the upcoming JLA books.

My name is Angie McKeon, I live in Florida but was born in South Africa and moved to the US when I was 14. I love to eat, read and buy books....lol. I’m very passionate about getting people to read.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I became a book blogger in January. I always wanted to do it before but wasn’t sure if people would really care what I thought...lol. One day I just decided to go for it and Angie’s Dreamy Reads was born.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Honestly....lol. My daughter helped me come up with it. I knew I wanted Angie and Reads in there and she came up with the dreamy part. I thought it was cute.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Feedback from other readers. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hearing from other readers and seeing if they felt the same about a book as I did. I mean at the end of the day that’s all I am is a reader with a big mouth that loves to chat books.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

I think for me the hardest time is keeping up with review requests. I want to read EVERYTHING but it’s just not possible. I do have 3 kids and a husband that need some attention...lol. So definitely trying to get to everything and everyone can be a little stressful.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

I currently do NOT....But I am planning one that should begin in a month or so :)

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

Gosh....That’s a hard one. I think my favorite moment was when J.Kennar shared on her Facebook page that my review made her happy...lol. I’m a HUGE fan of her series so that definitely brightened my day.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

Contemporary romance..I just LOVE it. I also love PNR and Erotica.

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

Oh man....My all time favorite? I really think that would be the Thoughtless Series by S.C Stephens. I literally breathed that series into me when I read it. It changed the way I read and what I look for in books. Kellan was one of the first book boyfriends that I became obsessive over and I don’t think there was a better series that that one.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Kellan Kyle. He’s hot, sweet but carries a balance of bad boy and good boy perfectly. Not to mention how much he loves Kiera.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Rose from Vampire Academy. That girls is kickas*. I remember being so completely in thralled with her. She is definitely #1 for me.

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

S.C Stephens ~ Obviously because she wrote the best series EVER.

Samantha Towle ~ She was one of the first indies I read. I remember when I read her PNR series that I thought...HOLY MOLY this is so much better than some of the traditionally published books I had been reading. She really started my love of indies, along with S.C Stephen.

Gail McHugh ~ She is my new addiction and her writing has taken over my heart. She writes with such a poetic tone that I can’t EVER get enough. Her characters are just brilliant and the way she brings them to life are really beyond words. I am a HUGE fan girl.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

No..No...No...LOL. I hate movies. I don’t like to see my favorite books turned into them because the probability that I will watch is slim to none.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

Real by Katy Evans. OH MY GOD. Remy...swoon. I think it’s the only book that has made me obsessive over fictional character this year. Definitely a book that consumed me and left me DYING for more.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Right now I can’t wait for Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover (love Holder) and Pulse by Gail McHugh (swoon Gavin Blake) and also Wethering The Storm (yummy Jake).

Book Blogger Spotlight: B.O.O.K.L.I.F.E

Hi, I'm Neysa Kristanti, seventeen-year-old book blogger from Indonesia.

I really loves reading, writing, and painting. Oh, and talking as well. I have an unexplainable eternal love for stiletto platform high heels, NYC, London, and Paris. I also dream on being a fashion designer someday soon.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I've just finished reading a really good book back then on 2012 when i though about "Hey, instead of rambling to my friends about it, why don't start my own blog and rambles there?"

And so, [B.O.O.K.L.I.F.E] was born.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

I previously had a blog titled [M.N.K], which is my name's initial, Maria Neysa Kristanti, and so I want to make my book blog's name with similar feelings to it.

I also got the inspiration from the foodcourt on my local mall, which is named 'Foodlife'. And I thought, if it was called foodlife for food things, then why not booklife for book things? And then, I got the word, BOOKLIFE.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I personally really love getting comments. It means that people are actually reading my post, and like it enough to comment on it. And it really makes my day to read the comments from you guys!

Getting to know authors up close and personal is also another thing I really love from blogging.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

I think it's because I'm still in high school, and had another duty beside blogging, I find it really hard to manage my bloglife and my schoollife on the same time. But I'm trying to do my best, so, yeah, I'll manage it.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

Yep, I've been participating in Waiting on Wednesday and Stacking the Shelves, which is my favorite. It's really exciting to see the potrait of the actual book bloggers all around the world was receiving.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

My favorite moment was, of course, getting my first ARC ever! It was Taken by Erin Bowman, and I got it via HarperCollins International. Being an international blogger, it's actually really hard for us to get a physical ARCs. So when this book landed on my mailbox, I really was excited!

I'm trying to do better and better for every review I write, but some that I thought were very great (maybe) are:  Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare and Staters by Lissa Price.

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

I really love reading YA books. Maybe because I myself am still a high schooler also. I love reading dystopian fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. But what I love most is reading a sad and tearjerker story!

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

I guess I'll have to go with Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler. I really loves this book because it was a reminiscence of my very first love, sweet and bitter at the same time.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices series. He's really sweet and broken, and reading him just make me go all swoony.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Sophie from Hex Hall. The story was not that epic or all, but the main character was totally funny. I love her sarcastic personality, and I think Sophie was the only one that could make me laugh out loud while reading.

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

Cassandra Clare, because TMI was the first book that succesfully turned me into a booklovers, and her works always seemed so realistic.

Katie McGarry, because my guilty pleasure is reading about characters that have miserable life and flawed personality, but still struggling to stand up tall.

Ilana Tan. This one is from my native country Indonesia, but I really love her work. She wrote like an international writer, and her story was always so heartwarming.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

Ooh, I would really love if Under the Never Sky was made into film. Or The Infernal Devices.  I think Kendall Jenner would be a perfect Aria from Under the Never Sky.

What has been your favorite book of 2013? Why did you love it?

I think the book that I love most so far from 2013 was Clockwork Princess. It was really intriguing, and was such a beautiful conclusion for The Infernal Devices series.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

I'm dying to read Allegiant by Veronica Roth, which will be out in October. So can't wait to read the continuation of Tris and Four's story. And plus, I believe Veronica Roth will close the series epicly.

Definitely paper books. It's really lovely to see them lining up neatly on my bookshelves.

Book Blogger Spotlight: Fluttereal Flight

Alrighty! My name is Emily Drema Tuallano, and I'm from Singapore, that weensy little red dot! It's so crazy hot over here, but sometime it's rainy here (I think the weather is experiencing mood swings). I'm fourteen this year. Anyway, besides reading and blogging, I love to do archery and play golf with my family! I'm also a Christian.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I started off blogging in 2012. I'm a crazy bookworm and once or twice I tried to spaz with my sister over a novel I'm simply crazy about or this boy inside that I'm totally falling head over heels for. And I would always get a response which is like this .__.

So yes. I needed to find an outlet where I can freely express my load of 'feels' to the people who actually understand how I feel and can empathize with me. And that's how my Goodreads account started off!

As I roamed around the blogsphere, visited all the different book blogs. I really admired all their beautiful designs and I admired how there were so many such honest, down-to-earth reviewers. So I was inspired to start my own blog just this March!

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Well, FlutterealFlight. I wanted my blog's name to be very special and unique. I think why I chose "Fluttereal" is because I love butterflies and anything that can fly just like hummingbirds. And I love anything that sounds ethereal.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I love meeting new people and debating about books with them! The greatest thing about blogging is the exposure it gives you to meet all sorts of new people out there. You'll meet all sorts of people and the best thing about it is that you get to interact with them. I've met so many great people on my short journey in blogging, such as the awesome and sweet Lisseth from Read-a-holicZ, Giselle from Xpresso Reads, Hannah at Book Haven Extraordinaire, Jessi at Auntie Spinelli Reads! And now you! I've also got an opportunity to interact with many other fabulous bloggers. They've been so helpful to me, giving me advice and helping me along the way.

And of course, also it's the part where I get to share my view openly without getting judged by people who don't really understand.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

Well, the hardest thing about blogging is tackling those negative comments and those haters! It can really get to my confidence and I know a lot of bloggers get hate mail too. It's also difficult to handle people who are being unreasonable. I mean your opinion is your own, and you should have the freedom to express it! If you want to disagree, you could do it in a polite manner.

Another difficulty is committing to post everyday. I know I can't because of school and other commitments, though I really wish I could!

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

Hmmm… My blog does participate in a series of features, though it's hard to choose which one is my favorite! I participate in Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, Feature and Follow Friday, hosted by Rachel at Parajunkee and Alison at Alison Can Read, and the Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Reviewer. I would say I like the Feature and Follow Friday Hop best. Meeting new people and getting to know more about them is definitely very fun and interesting. However, I haven't had the time to participate for the longest time!

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

I was so happy to receive the Secret For A Song ARC from Giselle at Xpresso Book Tours (Giselle is like a seriously awesome blogger, and I really really admire her) and I am so grateful. The Tour will be in June, so do look out for my review!

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

My favorite genres are Dystopia and Mystery! They are so exciting and I really love the action and suspense that it is typically involved in the novels. They keep me on the edge of my seat constantly! And the world-building in exceptional Dystopia novels are… breath-taking and so realistic! I can feel myself immersed in them and sometimes they cause a chill to run up my spine (Divergent, Breathe and Under The Never Sky!). I also really love Historical Fiction and retellings of classic tales.

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

Now that is a very difficult question.

I really loved Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. I have always loved the tale of Robin Hood and this fresh take on it was absolutely brilliant (did I mention that Scarlet was Miss Gaughen's debut novel?). I loved the characters (Robin and Scarlet *squee!*) and the romance was so sweet!

I also loved the 2nd to 4th book of the Need Series by Carrie Jones! The Norse Mythology was brilliant and Astley (uber sexy) was gorgeous! The characters were all quirky and full of spunk and the whole storyline was so driven and breath-taking.

Breathe by Sarah Crossan is also another of my favorites! The world-building is spectacular, the plot so full of action and the characters all so relatable.

The Books of Bayern were also brilliant and that's the type of fantasy that I fell in love with a long time ago.
Divergent was spectacular too.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Oh no. That's a question no one should EVER ask me. I can go on for days.

It's ASTLEY from the Need series by Carrie Jones! He's so sweet, strong and gorgeous. He's also protective and loving, loyal and he can make compromises and he doesn't force anything on you. That said, he's not perfect either. He has his own personal demons, and he just does his best to hide them or not let them show.

I also really love Puck from the Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa, though I'm Team Ash. I really wish Puck could also find his happy ending. Puck is just roll-on-the-floor hilarious, expert dagger-man, and he makes sacrifices. Despite that not-a-care-in-the-world exterior, he also has a heart.

I'm going to stop here. Any further and I swear it's going to be a full-out spaz  xD

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

My favorite female character has got to be Alina from Breathe. She's full of spunk and totally badass. She has a mind of her own and isn't one to go weak in the knees and googly-eyed when her love interest walks by.

I also love Zara from the Need Series. She has a very interesting personality and habits we don't find in many other protagonists. She's a pacifist, and yet she kicks butt when she has too. And she is another one of those crackers! She and Issie can really make me laugh.

Who are your favorite authors and why?

Carrie Jones. She's just like Zara in so many ways. And she likes fudgesicles!

Gennifer Albin. Total genius in my opinion, and I love her wit.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

Oh yes! If I were a producer, I would turn Need into a movie. I've been waiting and praying for so long! I'm not good at all for casting. Seriously.

My favorite book is definitely Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. It was such an exhilarating read! I loved all the characters so much, and the whole novel made me laugh and cry so many times! And the romance was so sweet.

I also really loved Crewel by Gennifer Albin. The idea of a world being built out of threads like a tapestry was simply a breath-taking experience. And the characters was so full of wit and humor.

What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

So many! For one, it's all the sequels! Altered (Crewel #2), Resist (Breathe #2) and the sequel to Scarlet!

Paper, definitely!

In my room (or in the toilet if I need some peace and quiet!)

Book Blogger Spotlight: alyshamichelle Rantings and Ravings

My name is Alysha. I grew up in Oklahoma and am currently doing a little stint in San Francisco. I have always inhaled books like they're oxygen and even at 23, I can't get enough.

When and why did you become a book blogger?

I started my blog in November, when I attempted my first National Novel Writing Month. If you're not familiar with it, it's basically a month of writing-- no edits, no excuses, and the goal is to write 50,000 words. I wanted to blog about my writing, but I also wanted to blog about my reading. I took on book blogging as a kind of New Year's resolution to track every book I read in 2013. Also, I get asked a lot for book recommendations, so I really wanted a way to remember exactly what I liked and disliked about the books I read, to better help with giving recommendations.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Well, the Rantings part is when I talk about writing, or cafes, or tea, or being completely unable to resist buying a book when I'm in a bookstore. The Ravings part is the book reviews that I do. For the most part, I read what I know I'll like. This year I have goals of trying to authors and new genres, so not all the book reviews will be ravings!

I also intend to go by Alysha Michelle (which is my middle name) when I do write pieces that will be published. Hence, Alysha Michelle's Rantings and Ravings.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I really do blog about the things I love. And I am in love with the blogging community. I feel connected when someone comments on a post. I like to here back from people, whether they have read the book and feel the same or differently. I like discussing pros and cons of every book. I also like read other book bloggers. I suppose it's really the discussion that I love. I know why I like a certain book, but maybe someone else feels differently and I just love understanding their take on things.

What do you find the hardest about blogging?

I feel like I don't do it often enough. For now I'm trying for at least one post a week. But I see others doing one a day. Or reading three books a week. I feel slow! But I know I'm still fairly new and eventually I'll find the perfect pace for my blog.

Does your blog participate in any weekly features and if so which is your favorite?

I've only done a few. I intend on doing some more often. I really like the Top Ten Tuesday (this one I need to remember to do each week!).  And I participate in #FridayReads (on Twitter) every Friday. Though I feel like a slow reader compared to other book bloggers, I do try to have a new book a week.

What has been your favorite moment since you became a book blogger? Which review, interview or giveaway have you been most proud of?

I've loved every review! And I'm about to announce my first giveaway! I haven't been able to an interview yet, but I'm hoping for sometime this summer. I have hoarded my books my whole life and I've decided to give some (the majority) of them away!

The giveaway will be in mid-April. I'm really excited to do it, not just because it'll be my first, but I'm also going to do a vlog with it!

What kind of genres do you enjoy reading and reviewing the most?

I am Young Adult, all the way! (Even my writing). Though I do dabble in Science Fiction/Fantasy. I'm currently looking for the first New Adult to read. (If you have any suggestions, hit me up!)

What is your favorite individual book or series? What makes you love it so much?

I absolutely love Maggie Stiefvater. The Raven Boys is my favorite currently, though I suspect that after the rest of the series is released that will change. I'm also a huge Sarah Dessen fan and will always always recommend The Truth About Forever.

Who is your favorite fictional male character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Ethan Wate from Beautiful Creatures. He's not a moppy guy or a full-of-himself guy. He's also the first male MC that I actually have connected with from the beginning of his story. He's strong and determined and a little sarcastic at times. Though there are some great male characters in a ton of books that I have read, he's the one that really stand out to me. He's the kind of guy that I'd want to be friends with, and not because he's dark and attractive.

Who is your favorite fictional female character, why and from what book or series are they from?

Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. She didn't have super powers, but she was heroine. She's strong, flawed, and a great role model. The best thing about her is that her strength, the thing that fuels her, is also her greatest weakness. Love and compassion for other people.  She has a very strong sense of right and wrong in a world were that has been blurred and twisted completely.

Who are your favorite three authors and why?

Maggie Stiefavter because of her world building and beautifully real characters who happen to live in the not-so-real-world.

Sarah Dessen because she's one of the only author who has kept me captivated with realistic YA fiction. Forever and always. Every single book of hers has totally thrown me for a loop. She just gets it right, every single time.

Michael Crichton because of his use of research and knowledge in his books. I really feel like I learned some science after I read his books. Also, in every single one, I can see it playing out as a movie.  Moment to moment action in every scene. His books keep me on edge.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

I'm really skeptical with the whole turning-books-into-movies. I whole heartedly agree that they have done an amazing job with Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, but they completely botched The Twilight Saga.  But if I could be guaranteed that the films would come out just as well as the books, I would say the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray.  I think the world she created would be awesome to see on the big screen.

As for casting, I'm all for keeping it as close as possible to the descriptions in the books, but honestly it all comes down to who can act and who can really portray a character. Like I said, they completed botched that with Twilight.
