Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

A: To be honest I really don't have any absolute deal breakers!  I tend to only start books that I know I have a good chance of enjoying.  Meaning they are in the genre I enjoy and I have normally seen them around or talked about as an upcoming release.

However if I had to pick one thing... maybe it would be a love triangle?  It is not that I hate them but lately I have found myself sighing a bit when I realise that there is going to be one.  I would never stop reading a book because of one and if well written they can be a lot of fun.

So... what is your deal breaker?  Do you have any?

Don't forget, if you are a new follower make sure to leave me your link so that I can follow you back.

    1. I do branch out sometimes but honestly I don't see the point in trying to force myself to read a book in a genre that doesn't appeal to me when there are SO many books out there I am dying to read first. :)

  2. awww you're joining the FF fun! Yaaay! :D
Love triangles can definitely get a bit annoying to read about, but when they're done well, they can be so heart-wrenching! *Cough cough* Clockwork Prince...

  3. Triangles seem to be a popular answer. They seem to be a real downer, lol. I guess I just don't read anything with them in it, so I'm ambivalent about them. Thanks for the follow; I'm a new GFC follower in return.

    1. Honestly if well done they work.. but I tend get strong feelings for one of the guys and if they don't end up with the girl it is just too big a disappointment. :P

  4. To be honest, I never thought of the triangle as annoying until I started blog hopping and started reading how everyone feels about them. It is a common, and maybe that's the problem, plot device that can work well. But now that everyone is sick of them, I'm noticing that they are in almost every book I pick up.

I would not stop reading over a triangle, I only stop if the book bores me, otherwise I finish it no matter what trick is used.

  5. I will admit that the love triangle has been a little over used lately. So yes it is getting old. Thanks for stopping by my blog! New follower GFC!

  6. Yeah, im with you on the annoying love triangles. Not a deal breaker, but normally a bit painful to read! Think authors will ever listen to us and stop writing them? lol. BTW, your blog is so pretty. Ive just spent like 5 mins waving my mouse cursor around to watch the little hearts cascade down. :)

  7. That's pretty much how I feel about love triangles too! Plus I find them unrealistic. What girl really has to choose between two guys? You either truly love one or you don't love either. But it is such a trend these days. I still read books that have them, I just wish they weren't so stupid about it I guess. :)

  12. I can do a well played love triangle. A girl just getting to know a couple of guys is one thing, a girl in love with a couple of guys is something else entirely and all together way too played out.

    1. Exactly! You can have feelings fro two people, sure I buy that. But deep love with two? And the two are normally friends or know each other... not getting it.

  16. Hmm, I don't really hate love triangles since I've had the luck to only stumble upon good ones. You know, the ones that would rip your heart out because both sides are so good and you don't feel like making a choice was fair to either side, those are the ones I love. Although, to be honest, I don't really care much about the romance of a book, I figured it was usually the love triangles, forbidden love, cursed love or something like that, so I don't really care, what I care about, is the plot :P

Thanks for stopping by my blog, followed back! BTW, love the blog design ;)

  17. I agree on the whole love triangle thing. I enjoy well-written love triangles, but most of the time I just can't stand them. I think Twilight ruined the fun for me. I'm not entirely against it, it just seems to have become a standard ingredient. (Kick-ass hero/heroine? Check. A couple of villains? Check. A love interest? Oh, let's make that two!)

Thanks for stopping by! New follower :) And I adore your blog design!

  19. I think love triangles are a bit cliche and I'm getting pretty tired of them. They're not deal-breakers, though...they just make me roll my eyes a bit and maybe the rating of the book goes down half a star.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I've followed you back through GFC.

  20. I know a lot of people don't like love triangles -- but I guess that doesn't bother me as much as some. I wouldn't stop reading because of a love triangle. And, I agree, there's not many books I quit on, because by this time, I'm pretty good at knowing what I like (although not ALWAYS...) Thanks for visiting! New follower.

  25. I don't have real deal breakers, too. As you said, I try to read books I know I might enjoy and, even if sometimes I find something a little annoying I always try to find the other positive things of the book and always finish it. I don't like starting books and then give up on them, just for a few details that I don't like.

  32. Love triangles can be really annoying. However, I don't mind them if they are done in a good way. Like if they are really necessary to the story. But if they are just put in there to create some drama and tension then it is over kill. Because love triangles was way to common in YA literature. Especially about the common girl who is just sooo surprised that the 2 hots guys actually want her.... How many times have I read that kind of script... Innumerable.

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier, returning some of the love <3.
