Wow. I'm still fanning myself over here. I have read a lot of adult romance books, with quite a few of them claiming to be an 'erotic novel'. But, until I read Knight & Play, I don't think I even knew what an erotic novel was. Again, wow. There are some major steamy scenes that take place in this book.
“The girl was eighty percent kitten and twenty percent lioness, and he considered it his mission to make her roar.”
I was a little nervous when I first saw this was written in the 3rd person, it always takes me longer to get into that perspective. But I have to say, I was surprised at how connected I still felt to the characters. It gradually flipped between Sophie and Lucien, just enough to get both of their perspectives across.
“You’re wasted on the occasional bout of missionary sex with a disinterested man.”
Sophie didn't completely annoy me, which coming from me is a huge compliment. I found myself agreeing with the decisions she was making and could also understand some of the guilt she was feeling. My only complaint would be that even when proof of what her husband had been doing behind her back was thrown in her face, she still wanted to blame herself for it. But that is why we have Lucien, he was there to show her how wonderful she was and how she deserved so much more than what her husband was offering her.
“Come in, Ms. Black. I won’t bite.”
She walked across the room.
“… unless you want me to?” he murmured as an afterthought…”

So let us talk about Lucien. Holy Hades. This man is H. O. T. I knew as soon as I saw his line of business, Sex, that he was going to know his way around the bedroom, and the hot tub, and the kitchen, and the shower, and the plane... okay, I think you get the idea. Bottom line is that Lucien is one sexy man, who knows how to use the toys that his company makes. Sophie had no complaints.
“Sex with Lucien was a cross between the most sweeping romantic movie and the filthiest porn flick: he was feather gentle and filthy erotic all at the same time.”
I fear it may be a bit redundant to mention the HUGE cliffhanger ending, since book two is already out, but I wanted to make sure to let you know it is there. If only so that you can make sure to plan to read both Knight & Play and Knight & Stay immediately after. Because there is no way that you would be able to get to the end and not drop everything to start book two. The cliffhanger is that big.
